MCLEAN YOUTH BASKETBALL REGISTRATION OPENS DECEMBER 2, 2020

REGISTRATION FOR HOUSE AND SELECT ONLY

NO DEVELOPMENT CURRENTLY OFFERED – MAYBE LATER

Players and Parents,

McLean Youth Basketball (“MYB”) is opening up registration for the 2020-21 basketball season on December 1, 2020.  Registration is limited to the House and Select leagues.  Gym restrictions at this point prohibit us offering a Development league although that may change and we will alert you if Development is open for registration (final decision on Development within 15 days).

We are accepting registrations for players in House and Select, adult coaches for the House league, and adult referees in case we can schedule games later in the season.  Only adult coaches (individuals at least 18 years old) can register at this point.

We are in desperate need of adult coaches to register for all leagues.  Fairfax County will require us to have at least two adult coaches in the gym at all times.  The number of teams we can field, and the opportunities to practice and play basketball, will be strictly limited by the number of adult coaches that volunteer to participate in the league.  If you want to have your kids play this year please seriously consider signing up to coach or we may not be able to offer enough gym times for the number of players that register for the league.

How the league will run –

1.  Only an adult or parent/guardian may register a player to participate in the league.  Players may not register themselves unless they are at least 18 years old.

2.  All coaches and referees that register must be at least 18 years old.

3.  The cost to register this year is $50 for the house league and $50 for Select B Teams and $100 for Select A teams.  We are accepting credit card payment only. No checks accepted this year.  We will not charge your credit card immediately upon registration.  We will send out a notice for you to go back online and make payment around December 15.

4.  They will be no evaluation sessions this year for the House League.  The Select League has already started the tryouts for Select teams.  Only players accepted to a Select League team will be able to register for the Select League.

The House League teams will be formed by draft based on information provided through the evaluation sessions last year.  If a registered player did not play last year then you need to make sure you contact the league commissioner and provide them with height, weight and playing experience.  All league commissioner’s contact info is provided on our website.

5.  The House League will be practice only (although scrimmage games will be part of every practice).  We will try to organize modified tournaments at the end of the season to have some games between the teams within each league but there is no guarantee at this time that tournaments will be scheduled for the House league.

6.  Practices will consist of 60 minutes once or twice a week depending on available gym space.  If sufficient space is available then each team would have a practice scheduled during the week and a practice scheduled during the weekend.  There will be only one team in the gym at a time.  Once teams are formed, we will distribute the practice schedule.

7.  No parents (other than coaches) or spectators will be permitted in the gyms during practice or games if scheduled.  Strict admittance standards will be applied and a health questionnaire will need to be completed each week prior to entering the gym.  Health questionnaires and instructions will be distributed at a later date.

8.  Fairfax County has provided an extensive list of requirements that must be met at all practices and/or games scheduled in school gyms.  We will provide these guidelines at a later date but we will adhere to them.

9.  Part of registration for players, coaches or referees is reading and signing off on the COVID-19 release form which is included with all registrations.  If you do not check the box indicating you agree to the release than your registration will not be completed.  Please read the release and check the box if you wish to participate in the league.

10.  We anticipate that practices will begin Monday, January 4, 2021, after that date if gym use is cancelled for any reason there will be no refund.  If gym use is cancelled for any reason prior to January 4 then all registration fees will be refunded.

Changes will happen over the next few months and there is no way at this point for us to anticipate what those changes will be.  We will adjust, as necessary and we request your patience and cooperation with any adjustments those changes require.  Our goal is to provide as much opportunity to practice and/or play basketball as the environment permits.

Good luck to everyone.  Stay safe.

Chairman, McLean Youth Basketball

SELECT LEAGUE (TRAVEL BASKETBALL LEAGUE) TRYOUT INFORMATION

Fairfax County has alerted all youth recreation basketball programs that Community Gym Use has been authorized for their use starting on January 4, 2021 under strict COVID safety rules (listed at the end of this email). This approval is subject to the VHS return to play rules and protocols which are subject to change. Right now, the High School sports are opened for Gym use on December 7. Any change to that date would affect our timing as well.

Subject to the above The Fairfax County Youth Basketball League has issued their return to play rules and procedures. Under these rules tryouts may begin on Friday November 27. Select practices will begin on January 4 and select games will be scheduled from January 16 through March 7. The playoffs will end on March 15.

At this time MYB is moving forward with Select try-outs. This is for MYB travel teams.
House registration will open up later this month.  More information on the House league to follow.
