McLean High School Varsity Boys Volleyball: A Historic 2024 Inaugural Season

The McLean High School varsity boys volleyball team made history in 2024 with an incredible FCPS inaugural season that has left a lasting mark on the school, the community, and Virginia volleyball. Finishing the season as the Liberty District and Northern Region champions, the team showcased talent, resilience, and heart every step of the way.

A Perfect 21-0 Run

From the first serve of the regular season to the final point in the Regional tournament, the McLean boys were unstoppable. Their dominance on the court was a clear sign that this group was something special. The team went undefeated with a historic 21-0 record in both the Liberty District and Northern Region. This perfect record not only earned them the district and regional titles but also established McLean as a powerhouse in Virginia volleyball.

State Final Four Appearance and National Recognition

Despite their remarkable run, McLean's journey came to an end in the semifinals of the Virginia High School League (VHSL) State Tournament, where they faced the eventual state champion and #1 nationally ranked Kellam High School. The team battled to the end but ultimately lost, finishing just shy of a state title.

With a final 22-1 record, the team ended the season ranked #11 in the country according to MaxPreps—an achievement that will be forever remembered. This national recognition is a testament to the skill, teamwork, and dedication the players demonstrated throughout the season.

A Team Built on Community

What makes this achievement even more special is the deep connection between the team and the McLean community. Fans packed the stands at games and showed their support for the boys every step of the way. 

About half of the players on the roster began their volleyball journey through McLean Youth Volleyball (MYV), showing how local programs can nurture talent and bring success to high school athletics. The team's performance has also inspired the next generation of athletes to pick up a volleyball and chase their own dreams.
